Bloxwich (Friendly) Away (11th September 2004)

The 3rds started their season with a 4 - 2 win which was pleasing for all who played as it was a very slow start with most of the players just arriving from holiday and the rest still wishing they where on them as all of the summer training. Two goals from GIMP and two goals from Peter Icke set our stall for the season. Good to see the return of Robin Snead now making a good come back. Julian Hickman had a steady return to the season with missing approximately 306 open goals (it seemed that many). Bloxwich made a fair attempt to recover, but we where just a little too strong Well, thats all your getting for now it is only the first game.

Phil G.

Old Wulfs (Friendly) Home (18th September 2004)

A much better performance this week with 2 goals from Gary (Gimp) and 1 goal from peter icke from a short corner. Aaron played in goal giving john lees a much needed run out. Debuts for John Scholz (Scholz junior). Adeem, Sammy, all playing well and not letting anyone down on their performance.

Phil G.

Pershore Home (25th September 2004)

It started well with West Brom having most of the early play with little to show for their efforts until we were awarded a penalty stroke, which robin snead put away with ease. The 2nd half was much the same as the first with West Brom getting a 2nd penalty which yours truly put wide. The score stayed at 1-0 therefore West Brom collected their first three points of the new season.

Phil G.

Stafford Away (16th October 2004)

Break into the lead with a fine goal from Chris Jones after most of the possession. The second half was a total different story with Stafford attacking straight from the whistle and scoring after ten minutes and a second four minutes later. West Brom decided to push forward to get an equalizer but got caught on the break with Stafford getting tired, which left west brom beaten by the better team. A good all round team effort and if this is the effort that is forthcoming some team will suffer in the near future ( BRING THEM ON GUYS )

Phil G.

Bloxwich at home (23rd October 2004)

Well we all started well with west brom gaining control of the game straight from the off. The first goal came 25 minutes into the first half, scored by Peter Icke. Peter had a hand with the second goal scored by Jules Hickman. How is still a mystery (was it stop.control and score) or (was it oh sh** it s hit my stick and rolled over the line).

Second half was much like the first with a stunning goal from Phill G (if he does say so himself!! - ed) and a well taken penalty from Robin snead. A warm welcome to two or three new players to our team. First welcome is to a new lad SHAMMIE LEATHER who played very well in the mid field giving the older members a young fresh pair of legs. Second welcome is to BIFFO who found his first game of this season very easy. Third welcome goes to Julian Hickman making his league debut for this season and scoring. The side is slowly coming together now that players are becoming available and soon we will have a squad of 15 to 16 players to choose from which can only be for the good of the side many thanks to both umpires who kept the game flowing

Phil G.

Kingswinford at home (30th October 2004)

Saturday saw West Brom once again take control straight from the off having eleven players plus two subs gave West Brom the chance to put the pressure on kingswinford from start to finish. The first goal came from a shout corner converted by Peter Icke slipping the ball just inside the post. The second goal came just before half time with Gary putting the ball into the back of the net from the far post (as usual). The third goal came in the second half with a well worked goal with West Brom passing the around the pitch at ease. Seven passes where made without Kingswinford touching the ball before finally Phill Gutteridge hit the hard and low into the corner off the goals wrong footing the keeper giving him no chance of stopping the ball.

The final score was west brom 3 kingswinford 0. Keep up the good work lads it can only get worse

Phil G.

Kidderminster Away (6th Nov 2004)

Well, yet another fine performance was displayed on Saturday with the third team coming away from Kidderminster with a 2- 2 away draw. The game started well for west brom taking the lead after 15 minutes from a goal from peter icke kiddy worked well to get back into the game scoring two goals each side of half time the first goal was the fault of the defense falling asleep after a short corner with a quick brake from kiddy. The second goal saw juls Hickman loosing the ball in the opponents Dee looking at the defender trying to decide weather it was his father or a long lost family friend while Kiddies forwards attacked west broms goal to make it 2-1. Five minutes later Juls made up for his errors with a lucky mid air strike putting the ball into the to much of his surprise towards the end of the game west brom could have walked away with tree points after Phill Gutteridge sent a marvelous ball down the left hand side of the pitch to Julian who pulled in two defenders passing the ball to peter icke who found himself with an open goal only to have a Kidderminster forward run from the half way line back to help his defense and take the ball from him before he could strike it at goal. A good all-round performance was seen on Saturday with five regular players out this week with sickness it was good to see that the cover we have thought out the team is not a disappointment. The only problem we can see coming up in the thirds is when every one is available who to choose!

Phil G.

In the interest of editorial integrity and because I can't be bothered to change Phil's accouont, I'd like to point out a few factual errors in Phil's account.

Firstly, it was Kiddy who scored first, although it was after about 15 minutes. Kev and myself got caught upfield attacking and were not quick enough to get back. We then scored the flukiest goal I have seen in a long time with my cross being flicked up by Gary Gimp up and across the keeper straight onto Jules's stick and into the goal. Kiddy were furious at Keiths decision to give it, but none of us could see what was wrong with it.

In the second half we were piling masses of pressure on Kiddy and they were counterattacking quite effectivelly. Pete Icke hit a good goal from a short corner after about ten minutes and Gary Gimp missed an absolute sitter (he hit it across the face of the goal!) before Peter Icke missed his very own sitter, as described by Phil. Then with about ten minutes to go Kiddy scored a well deserved and well taken goal to leave the honours even.

This was one of the best and cleanest games I have played in for a while. It was end to end with neither side satisfied with out and out defending. The quality of the passing and crossing was almost second team level, with only the finishing being a bit lacklustre.

Paul Mason.

Aldridge at home (13th Nov 2004)

What a strange game it was. The first half saw Aldridge take early control and dominate for most of the half. The defence held strong with Craig judkins clearing the ball from of the line while John Lees was asleep on the floor. Aldridge kept the pressure up until the half time break. To sum up the first half West Brom were asleep. For the first time this year the thirds had an umpire to say he was blind would be unfair to the blind. So say no more, the lads carried on regardless and accepted that this must be the way they umpire on Mars because he could not have come from this planet. To be fair their umpire was not too bad.

After the half time team talk and a change of players and playing positions West Brom started the second half much more convincingly. West brom pressured Aldridge for most of the remaining game and for that they got there just desserts with Juls Hickman scoring his 3rd goal of the season after receiving a fine pass from Phil G to break the dead lock. The second goal came form a well worked set piece with Peter Icke shooting a short corner ball firmly across the goal mouth to the far post for Gaz Aston convert into the back of the net.

To sum up the game in general it was a game of two halves and the first team to score would take the win and i am glad to say it was west brom. WELL GROUND OUT LADS

Phil G.

Evesham at home (20th Nov 2004)

West Brom started of well in a game that could have gone ether way with Evesham putting on most of the pressure with the help of both umpires and scoring from a well worked short corner. This week saw our goal keeper for once earn his match fee with a great contribution to keeping the score down. Once again West Brom took control of the game and pulled back the score to 1-1 with a goal from Craig judkins. Yet again Peter Icke came up trumps givining West Brom the lead.

During the half time break West Brom made a few changes, seeing Dave Bellamey playing his best half game this season and Peter Icke scoring his 7th goal of the season so far. Evesham yet again pulled the game level with a lucky goal and a little help from the umpire. The wining goal went to West Brom with a goal from Phill Putteridge from a well taken short corner.

This run of play has now giving west brom a 3rd place spot in the league with Wednesbury and Stafford above well within our reach with so many games to play. Many thanks to our own umpires who turn out each week with little lees than a whistle and a card in all kinds of weather (IF ONLY THEY KNEW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM) it would be a lot more help to all our home teams ha ha

Phil G.

Market Drayton at home (27th Nov 2004)

This week saw West Brom show their true colours by taking control of this game against market Drayton right from the start of the whistle. Again West Bromwich had to make a few changes with players having to attend to wedding duties. West Bromwich took the lead 15 minutes into the game with yet again Peter Icke putting his name to the first goal slotting well past the keeper. How this was done, the team are still trying to work out. For the second goal, once again, Peter Icke was there to put the ball into the net. Not much to report on this one...just the run of the mill goal. The third goal was one of surprise with mark Jones finishing off a seven man move with Mark appearing from nowhere on the far post to put the ball into the roof of the net.

Well done lads keep it up.

Phil G.

Just to clear up Pete's first goal. It came from some neat work between myself and Robin down the left. Robin got past a defender to the by-line and passed the ball across the goal. It didn't look like it was going anywhere until Pete popped up and got the slightest bit of stick to it and it just slid under the left leg of their goally. Great bit of poaching!

I promised Jon that I'd mention his superb efforts in between the sticks. Although he was rarely called upon in this match, he managed to summon a piece of acrobatics towards the end of the game that would defy a 14 year old olympic gymnast (have you seen the size of Jon?!!). I was on the side watching this with Market Drayton's coach and he couldn't believe what he had just seen (nor could I) as John saved a shot on one side of the goal with his feet and then dived across the goal to save the second shot with his stick/body. Well done Jon.

Paul Mason.

Whitchurch Away (4th Dec 2004)

Well, how do we start. This was a very strange game with West Bromwich going a goal down after 5 minutes. Most of the team where still in the pub when Whitchurch scored there first goal. But as always we stuck at it and a goal came from a defender of all people. What he was doing in the opponents goal who knows, but it was a fine attempt to pull the score to 1-1. Then once again a lack of concentration saw Whitchurch once again take the lead with a second goal. But glad to say we once again pulled back the score to 2-2 with a goal from Peter Icke with a minute to go to half time.

In the second half West Brom took the game to Whitchurch and put them under pressure from the off and all the hard work paid off with West Brom getting a goal scored by Juls Hickman making the score 3-2 to West Brom and once in the lead never looked like loosing it. A fine effort was made by John Lees who is West Broms goalie who played out on the wing and for all his efforts when down with cramp (SHAME HA HA HA ). Maybe next week he will stay in goal.

Phil G.

Pershore Away (11th Dec 2004)

Once again Saturday saw West Bromwich 3rds take control of the game from the off. West Broms strength has grown as the season has progressed. The first half West Brom had all the pressure and for all there hard work took the lead from a goal from Paul Mason his first of the season* following up a fine attack when the keeper saved four attempts Paul put the ball where the keeper could not stop it (IN THE NET). Well done Paul. The second goal came ten minutes before half time with a fine shot from Mark (BOND) Jones putting west brom 2-0 in front before half time. Nice cushion.

The second half was much like the first with West Brom having most of the pressure until Pershore broke away got into the West Brom Dee and almost scored but for Craig Judkins holding the line and clearing the ball to the side line from waste height. During the second half Craig did well to break down a good attack with the help of his body just above his bikini line when the ball hit him. Craig fell like a sack of potatoes awaiting help from fellow players to which all went running (sorry no one attended at all). On the whole West Brom showed just how strong we really are!! Well done lads !!

Phil G.

* That was may first goal for this club and in my first on over 5 years! Boy, was I happy. Not so happy with my foot going south and having to wait in A&E for four hours only to find out it's a bad sprain! Oh well, beggers can't be choosers.

You forgot to mention Jules major trantrum when he got his stick trapped between the keepers legs (ooooerr..it must have hurt vicar!). P

Walsall at home (Friendly) (18th Dec 2004)

My goal was a deflection off a defenders foot!! The only main talking point against their weak side was the constant demand, which we resisted as we had loads of short corners, by Chris Long to have a drag flick short corner attempt, when in the last five minutes we gave in to let him have a go. The ball out to him was perfect and we all stood back waiting in amazement to see Aaron Bin Laden fluff the stick stop and Chris to totally miss the ball. Red faces on them and the rest of the third team holding their stomachs laughing in pain!!

Peter Icke.

Aldridge Away (Friendly) (8th Jan 2005)

It was a good start to our second half of the season with west brom coming away with a 5-0 victory. Not a lot to say about the game really apart from the fact it was a typical new year game with most of the players wanting to stay in the changing rooms rather then face the bitter cold winds. Peter Icke got his first hattrick of the season and Robin Sneed getting the other two.

HOPE TO SEE AN IMPROVEMENT THIS SATURDAY when west brom take on Stratford from the division with three players not available it will be interesting but i am sure the team will give all they can, if not more (blood? body parts? you've already had my right foot! - ed).

Phil G.

Stratford at home (Friendly) (15th Jan 2005)

With Phil away with the fairies...err, first team, Kev took charge. A bit low on staff and myself still sporting my injury from the Pershore game, so Adeem and Neil helped out. I suspect we all thought this game would be one way traffic with Stratford flying high in the league above. Kev duly warned us and most of us psyched ourselves up (I'm still not sure what Julian was doing at this point, but he certainly wasn't on this planet!). The plan (or so Kev told us) was to play Adeem first half and me in the second.

The first half started at a fairly brisk pace with Stratford showing their superior passing skills in midfield. As the half wore on though they failed to turn these into chances, with Kev, Craig and Adeem stemming the flow very well. West Brom started to create more and more chances and gain more possesion after the first ten minutes or so with the full backs pressing up field and both Jules and Pete creating space on the flanks for the midfield to run onto. After twenty minutes or so, with West Brom firmly parked on the Stratford half, the boys in white broke quickly and decisivelly with Kev and Craig being overwhelmed by about five players while half of West Brom stood and watched (shame on you!) for stratford to take a relativelly easy goal. The rest of the half was almost all Stratford with their forwards being denied by some wonderful keeping and some, at times, desperate defending and their own inaccuracy.

The second half started well for West Brom. The first ten minutes saw West Brom apply a good deal of pressure, with Chris, Robin and Pete all linking well and myself and Kev well able to feed them, whilst Stratford counterattacked quickly but not that convincingly. All of this lead to a short corner with a shot from Craig that was powerful, but wide, being picked up at the far post by Neil fellows at the last moment with an unstoppable shot into the net. Then, for some reason, Kev decided to swap myself and Martin and this unfortunaley changed the game with Stratford able to take more possession and use their flanks easier. Appart from the last five minutes or so the game was played in our half, with some excellent keeping from John, who earned his tea, and some good close quarter defending with pretty much everyone except Julian (lone striker) pitching in. Stratford scored with about ten minutes to go, but it was disallowed by their referree after a comment from one of our team.

The score was a fair reflection of the game. We showed a good deal of grit with a side that wasn't as strong as it could have been and Stratford looked a little rusty after Xmas. The defence earnt it's tea this week and I think Kev, John and Craig came up with even honours from this one.

A six pointer next week against Wednesbury, where we will need all of that grit we displayed today.

Paul Mason

Wednesbury Away (15th Jan 2005)

West Brom were robbed of a draw due to some of the worst umpiring i have seen from Wednesburys Umpire. Thier winner was definately and clearly not a goal as it hit a wednesbury player before going in the goal. A Nervey first twenty minutes but a good final ten minutes for the first half saw Robin Snead score just before the whistle. Wednesbury always looked strong, i believe there were players who play at a higher level in their side. Kerry Moore was playing his first game back this season and our team gave their all but we were unlucky. Rob Spencer appeared on the side lines and Chris Spencer plus David Atkinson were playing for the opposition. The day got stranger with the snow making an appearance.

All in all a strange saturday afternoon but it was good to watch the 3rd XI in action!!!

Rob Clarke

Not much to add to Robs comments. We had a clear penalty in the first half (even I could see that) as well as a very questionable second goal against us. There was a brilliant comedy moment (for us at least) in the first half with Wednesbury ripping through our left side and drawing in the right side for what should have been a excellently worked goal. Unfortunately their player managed to hit the left post and it rebounded in the melee' for the ball to be hit against the right post before being cleared.

This game was more even than it should have been. Wednesbury played with a pashion that we rarely matched. They were more physical and aggresive, but somehow we managed to stay in it. I feel that sometimes we are a little too nice to our opponents, especially in the midfield.

I think Kerry and Ritchie Moore both played absolute blinders today. I also think it's worth mentioning that Chris Jones got into some very good positions and did a lot of work on the left that no-one seemed to notice or use. We kept trying to get that killer pass through the middle and it only really worked in the last ten minutes of each half.

Paul Mason

Kingswinford Away (12th Feb 2005)

West Brom started without Phil, with the first team, and Kev, who was umpiring(!), but had a pretty much full strength squad. Kev decided to arrange us in a more formal 4-4-2 formation.

The first twenty minutes saw West Brom taking immediate control making full use of Mark and Kerry's pace. It only took about ten minutes for Robin to score from the top of the D after some good work by Jules and Pete. The second came only 5 or so minutes later. Kingswinford were lacking any penetration on their right side and so they took off two (maybe three) older players and put some youngsters on. This marked a distinct shift in play as Kingswinford started to exploit our lack of pace on the left hand side and the rest of the half was dominated by them. Towards the end of the half Kingswinford scored, counterattacking neatly.

The second half saw Kev come on for Craig. This meant much better pace at the back and we were able to counter the deep pace of a couple of Kingswinfords younger midfielders. For most of the half saw Kingswinford dominated possession, but rarely threatened John. As the game drew to a close both sides looked distinctly ragged and West Brom were able to counter attack for a third goal that killed the game off.

Kingswinford put up one hell of a fight. These youngsters showed tenacity and skill and were only undone by their final touch. The score could easily have been 2-2. To be frank I thought that would probably have been a fair result. Our display was better than last week, but our left side continues to look vunerable. On the whole a solid, unspectacular, grinding sort of display.

Paul Mason

Kidderminster at home (19th Feb 2005)

I think a few of us viewed this meet with some relish, with the opposition looking an entirelly different proposition to the side that held us to a 2-2 draw at their gaff. Phil made a couple of changes with Martin moving inside to the defensive midfield position and Kerry Moore replacing Shammy at left wing.

The first half was almost entirelly spent in the opposition half. I'm afraid i can't recall the order of goals, appart from a wonderful looping shot from Craig that just evaded the goal keeper after it had hit their stick and the own goal following Pete Icke's cross (or shot if you're Pete) that was turned in by some unfortunate defender. Apparently, if a defender accidently turns a ball into his own net it isn't a goal. If this is true, then my own goal tally (numbering about 10 in my career that I can recall) would be cut in half...

The second half was much the same, except Kiddy upped their game a little. I'm not sure but i think they only had two or three serious attempts at goal. Some of the passing play we were able to do was very good. At one point after the final goal i counted twelve consecutive passes that ended in a shot just wide (Robin I think).

I'd like to think we were very good. Certainly Kiddy were not, but i think we approached the game very well and took nothing for granted. A friendly at home with Bromsgrove tomorrow will be a sterner test and hopefully sharpen us up for the showdown against Evesham. Hopefully Wednesbury will slip up (they have a distinctly unpleasant run in with Pershore, Whitchurch and Kingswinford) and then our destiny is in our own hands.

Finally congratulations to the first and second team who have both been promoted. Hopefully we can follow them.

Paul Mason

Bromsgrove at home - Friendly (26th Feb 2005)

Another competitive, aggresive, grinding sort of game against higher league oponents. Hopefully this will keep us sharp for a fairly important game at Evesham next Saturday.

Both goals were well worked counterattacks down the left wing, which drew the defenders into the winger, for him to put the ball back to the top of the D. Marks goal was, as usual, pretty spectucular. He told us after that it was intended to be a cross. Damn fine cross in my opinion.

The quote of the data (maybe the season) came as Criag and their centre forward crashed into each other. Neither of these chaps being too skinny Craig asked the other chap if he enjoyed the 40 stone love in. Priceless.

Paul Mason
